The Tri-State area is a center for a variety of business and industry.

Huntington is the home of the CSX railroad shops. CSX is the largest employer.
 
The Huntington port is the second largest tonage port on the Ohio River.
 
Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC and St. Mary's Hospital are the second largest area employers.
 
 
Among the largest industrial employers are: AK Steel Company (Ky), INCO Alloys International (WV), Army Corps of Engineers (WV) and Corbin Ltd. (WV). Other large employers include Marshall University (see schools), local school boards and medical facilities.
     

 

Newer employers to the area include Telespectrum Worldwide and Amazon.Com
     

 

The medical community includes six hospitals, 14 clinics, 314 doctors, 74 dentists, and a medical school. Hospital costs are 20% lower than the national average. Primary area hospitals include:

The region offers a friendly environment for all sizes and types of businesses with a committed, hardworking labor force. New commercial parks and facilities are under development. Toyota has a new plant in Putnam County, just east of the Tri-State.
